Six Delft Heart-Shaped Sweetmeat Faience Dishes

Six Delft Heart-Shaped Sweetmeat Faience Dishes

This rare set of six Dutch Delft heart-shaped sweetmeat dishes dates to circa 1735–1755. Crafted in tin-glazed earthenware, each dish is richly decorated in vibrant polychrome enamels with delicate gilded accents. The intense purple, green, and orange tones were achieved using the sophisticated petit feu technique, a low-temperature additional firing that allowed for a wider palette of enamel colors and the application of gold.

Preserved as a complete set of six with its original fitted case, the group is an exceptional example of 18th-century Dutch Delft craftsmanship.

Comparable examples are held by the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (BK-NM-12400-419) and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (C.141-1951).

Made in Netherlands, 1735–1755.
